A retrospective of the late John Heliker, the exhibition focuses on the artist’s small painting of figures, landscapes, and still lifes, as well as material from his copious daily sketchbooks and manuscript material from his relationships with prominent American composers. He played a vital role in the artistic and cultural life of New York City. An important teacher of painting, Heliker taught at Columbia University for 27 years, and was among the founding faculty of the New York Studio School and the MFA program at the Parsons School of Design. For more than 50 years, he showed with the Kraushaar Galleries in New York.
Exhibition curated by Deborah Rosenthal, Professor of Fine Arts. |
